It was invented in Western societies, and they invented it to express what they were looking to escape. That being said, fashion can be a positive thing when used in a well-thought-out way. It speaks for who you are, which makes it a pretty powerful tool. But it's also a breeding ground for trend-mongers and the crowd that wants to look better than what they already look like. "Fashion is just design," says Eva Pritchard, founder and editor of fashion/culture blog The Fits. "And in the same way we can study design, we can study fashion." So that's what she's done. She's studied fashion history, and through that, she's discovered what she thinks are the three biggest style trends of the past 10 years. They're kind of buried in the middle of a new trend that has come about in the past five years. "The three biggest trends [of the past] 10 years were the bell-bottoms, the skinny tie, and the buttoned up suit jacket with a fitted top," says Pritchard. "Now in five to seven years, it's just going to be about a lot of expensive, short, fuzzy things you can't actually see that are worn with over-priced headbands. The trend is just about being basic, and I think everyone should be getting bored with that." Pritchard believes that people are into what they're into. "Everyone likes a cookie-cutter style that they like," says Pritchard. "
