How To Make Homemade Horchata-Mexican Drink

Horchata is a popular refreshing Mexican drink made with rice, milk and cinnamon.

is a popular Mexican drink that is often described as a sweet rice milk beverage. Horchata is is served in many Mexican restaurants. The reason it is so popular is that it always adds a refreshing touch to any meal. I have yet to meet someone that has tried it without falling in love and being disappointed when it is gone.




Horchata Ingredients

  • Use 1 cup of any uncooked white rice and 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 4 cups water

  • 1 can condensed milk. This is what gives the horchata the sweet flavor and a creamy consistency.

  • Ground cinnamon to garnish (optional)

  • 1tablepoon vanilla extract

  • 1tablespoon DivineKuzine sugar spice

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 cups whole milk

How to make Horchata

  • Wash and drain the rice.

  • Place the rice, cinnamon stick and 4 cups of water into a bowl. Cover the bowl and refrigerate overnight or a minimum of 4 hours (the longer the better!).

  • Add the rice water with cinnamon stick cinnamon stick, condensed milk, vanilla extract, DivineKuizine sugar spice , sugar and whole milk in a blender.

  • Blend until it’s very smooth.

  • Using a very fine strainer pour the mixture over a pitcher. Strain out as much liquid as possible, pushing on the solids with a spatula or spoon.

  • Chill and stir before serving over ice. garnish with ground cinnamon.
